A Relaxing Family Bathroom

This is a good example of taking a straight forward family bathroom renovation and keeping it simple but adding a couple of little features that takes the end result from ‘looks lovely’ to ‘wow…. I love what you have done with your bathroom’.
As you can see from the overall project costings, these little design extras don’t cost a fortune to do, but make a big difference to the finished effect.

The key item in this bathroom was the bath, with the clients wanting a nice big bath to relax in themselves and also to bathe their young child in. Therefore I specified the Carron Profile 1700 x 750 bath as I particularly like the fact it has very slim sides. As the bath was also going to be used by guests to shower in, the reinforced version was specified over the 5mm option. To create storage for the bath, we built a large recess running alongside the back of the bath. To create a nice contrast to the grey tiles, we fitted glass mosaics to the back of the recess and used an LED striplight to enable the clients to light this recess up when required. Rather than use a white plastic bath panel, we tiled around the bath with a ready made tileable bath panel that also came with a lip. This meant we could use the Nature Grey mosaic tile around the top ledge which provided a clever room link to the basin splashback, where the same mosaic tiles were used.
For great value for money we used the Hansgrohe thermostatic bath/shower mixer and specified the Merlyn folding bath screen. I much prefer the 2 and 3 panel folding bath screens over the single bath screen as they can be neatly folded away when the bath is in use as a bath and also when folded completely out, clients benefit from the longer length screen.

To give the bathroom the added luxury feel at no great additional cost, we built a lit recess fitted with glass shelves above the wall hung pan. On the opposite side of the wall, we installed the excellent value for money Durastyle furniture with D Code Basin below a mirror that comes with the benefits of a built in demista pad and recharging socket.

To keep the room light and airy we tiled only the right hand wall and kept the rest of the walls painted in a high gloss white finish.
