The Modern Ensuite
This ensuite transformation is one I am particularly keen to showcase as I believe it highlights how a modern ensuite could look at a cost effective price point. The homeowners are a young professional couple with a demanding lifestyle of work pressures and a growing family. Therefore we wanted to create a luxurious but simple and reliable ensuite which was straight forward to use and easy to keep clean.
To begin with we stripped the room completely back. This enabled us to rebuild the walls in stud, enabling us to create the right depths and spaces to install the features we wanted to include. Within the stud wall we housed the Geberit concealed cistern, which meant we used a back to wall pan (so much neater and more hygienic than a close coupled wc suite). We created space above the basin to house a recessed mirror cabinet. Personally I love these cabinets as clients are able to take advantage of a great storage space including additional lighting and the added benefit of providing a recharging socket within for toothbrushes and shavors. This all without affecting the individuals use and space of the basin below it.
As the ensuite was on the 1st floor, it was no issue to plumb the waste below floor level and therefore we were able to create a level access wetroom. The majority of our clients do prefer this style of wetroom, particularly as it enables us to run the under floor heating uninterrupted through the whole of the room. The clients wish was for a large fixed shower head so we specified the Hansgrohe Raindance version. We use this type of head in many of our installations as we like the water/air mix technology of the Raindance shower heads. Due to the shower being operated by a combi boiler, we positioned the Crosswater shower valve at the entrance of the shower, to allow our clients to turn the shower on before entering the water zone.
As is often the case with the recesses in the shower area and above the WC, we used LED lighting. This is electrically wired to a separate switch to the main ceiling spotlights. The idea being that these subtle lights can be left on through the night or switched on in the middle of the night without waking the other person.
