Luxury Wetroom

The clients objectives were for us to transform their tired garden flat bathroom, that contained a leaking bath, into a room that gave them a luxury showering experience.

As it was a garden floor flat, the bathroom was surrounded by concrete (not ideal for bathroom renovations) and therefore the design concentrated on splitting the room into two – the wet area and the dry area. The wet area was raised by 14cm, by use of a substrate, to allow us to get the shower waste away. By building out a small stud wall in the shower area, this enabled us to install a built in shower valve (the excellent Hansgrohe ibox and thermostat) and combine it with a 200mm fixed head (the right size when used in conjunction with a combi boiler) and a hand held shower. The stud wall also enabled us to build 2 recess’s. A great place to put shampoos and shower gels.
The only area we could see could accommodate a substantial sized basin with storage was by the side of the shower. This worked well as we were able to use the new stud wall to house a recessed cabinet above the basin. This gives the clients additional light, storage and a recharging socket without taking further space into the room. To ensure the basin area remained dry, despite being in the raised wet zone – we installed 2 x 10mm glass screens to ensure the water remained in the shower tray area.
After visiting the showroom, the clients fell in love with the Duravit Sensowash WC ( a heated, electric seat that washes and drys the individual on use!) so this was specified on the installation. To complement the appearance of the room, we installed underfloor heating on both floor levels. This, as is always the case, provided the highlight for the clients who adore walking into their heated shower area, on the cold frosty Bristol mornings.
